About this deal

Solid plastic or metal mounting systems, which clip on to the handlebars and are secured with bolts, tend to offer much better security on bumpy roads as well as much greater long-term durability. This is a shame because the point-focused beam is arguably more suitable for use on a helmet, with a lack of peripheral illumination. I live in the woods and its can't see hand in front of your face pitch black at night so I use a those lights and batteries pretty much every day.

The high IPX 7 waterproof rating means that it should be able to withstand the worst of winter weather. The glowing orange side lights enhance visibility at junctions, without being distracting as you ride. This wider beam spread means it’s easier to see around turns, too – something that needs to be considered if you’re not running a dual-bar and lid-mounted setup.

It's worth mentioning at this point that, in the UK, bike lights are not subject to any upper limit in power.

Some lights project their output into one specific area, illuminating everything within that space with exceptional detail, but that’s frequently at the expense of broader coverage. Its CNC-machined aluminium build quality is excellent too, and its IXP7 waterproof rating is very welcome. The optics create a fantastic mix of flood and spot lighting, and side-to-side lighting is also great. While dynamo lights of old would go out when you stopped moving, modern dynamo lights include an internal battery which will keep them illuminated when you're stationary. The two spot LEDs illuminate the trail ahead brilliantly, while the three flood LEDs provide unrivalled side-to-side and forward visibility. With six XPL2 LEDs and 24 modes in total, the Exposure Six Pack is an impressive beast, reflected in its 406g weight. Feeling much brighter than its claimed 1,600 lumens in Blitz mode and boasting an excellent IP67 rating, this is a great little all-in-one light.

The latest Strada Mk11 SB AKTiv road light is now up to 1,600 lumens from 1,200 lumens a few years ago. There are four LEDs that deliver a fantastic mix of white and green light, making everything stand out, helped by its massive 4,500-lumen output. For gravel riding, it's unlikely you'll need the same amount of power as a mountain bike light because you'll only really need to light the path in front of you rather than twisting and turning trails. Despite its relatively low claimed max lumens, it has great power and beam spread, and it’s also relatively cheap, so ticks a lot of boxes. We do still have replacement parts for the R8 Mk 1, 1 LED Mk 2 and 1 LED Adventure Mk 2 but any repair work will be carried out at the discretion of Hope Technology as these models are over two years old. Run time at full power could be slightly better on both, but having larger batteries would naturally increase the size of the units, so it’s a bit of a trade-off. this battery pack connects to the Ferei HL65 headlight using an 88cm Ferei extension cable and can be used in place of the 1 cell battery pack supplied with the HL65.
