About this deal

It has its definite moments that come to mind, I just won’t mention specially to avoid dishing out any “spoilers” of sorts.

and as a heads up, we are giving away my review copy of the Blu-ray for a lucky winner (details HERE) . It's a cleaner, slicker and richer looking image, the 4K Blu-ray allowing the film to showcase its sumptuous aesthetics.I has convinced me of the potential of 4K, but also that that potential is only realized with good modern source material. The sequel had a very unique feel, not unlike the first film, but it’s a much different futuristic vision. DSD (3) Player Software (3) S/PDIF (3) SINAD (3) Sabaj (3) Tagging (3) USB Noise (3) AI (2) AMPT (2) Audio Demo (2) Auditory Acuity (2) Balanced vs. After the middling Prometheus and the messy Alien Covenant, I don't think he would have had the patience to let this film and its ideas breathe in a satisfying way. Whether or not the film comes to a close with an open-ended finale suggesting that there could be more adventures, some things are better left alone.

It's exciting to watch Gosling handle the material when K starts to doubt everything he's been told and begins to believe he's made for more. As well as perfectly backing up the visuals in transporting you to 2049, the sound mix recaptures the weird emotional-yet-detached atmosphere that works so brilliantly in the original Blade Runner without merely feeling like a rehash. As usual, I wished they didn't compress the album as much - come on audio engineers, let's maybe aim for at least DR10 for these female "jazz" vocal albums please. It might be heresy to those who adored the first Blade Runner, but I thought this was an even better flick than the first; kudos to Denis Villeneuve. For the week that ended on February 3rd, Warner Home Entertainment's Blade Runner 2049 stayed on top of the Blu-ray-only media chart. But the surrounds and overhead channels are just as cleverly utilised for precision as they are punch, as the drone takes flight and hovers around almost imperceptibly. In actuality, after sitting through the credits I walked out of the theater speechless, in a stupor. Gosling still is the main character, but it almost seemed like they wanted Ford to make a big splash regardless. Along with the previously mentioned score, the sound of spinners flying overhead, the report from K's gun as it fires, these low thundering sounds burst with powerful impact without overpowering the mix or blowing it out.

It's a rather orange scene so the chroma channel can be harder to analyze but there's more detail in the hair, around the eyes and eyebrows. There were a few instances on the album where it just sounded a bit strained without some dynamic level overhead on my main system. The Nexus 8 replaced the Nexus 6 series last seen in the 1982 film, which were [ SPOILER ALERT] deemed to be retired by law, once again by “ Blade Runners“, as they live now in hiding. The cleverly-developed narrative echoes the original, and builds upon its foundation, but never once seeks to disrespect it, unravel it, or repeat it. Black Out (HD 15:45) This animated short from director Shinichiro Watanabe serves to give a little bit of a story foundation behind an important event that is presented as history throughout the main film.

And a film which doesn't merely build upon the mantle of the 35 year old classic original but arguably goes some way towards not just expanding on it but even besting it. Blade Runner 2049 feels so very much like its predecessor, but so starkly different at the same time. Nexus Dawn (HD 6:31) Directed by Luke Scott, this short expands on a part of the prologue explaining how Jared Leto's Wallace was able to continue production of Replicants and also plants a couple seeds for his motivations in the movie.
