About this deal

It’s a unique chronicle of a unique event and a glimpse into the creativity of two icons of the 1970s and 1980s. A beautiful coffee table art book chronicling the extraordinary collaboration between Debbie Harry and H.

From an irreverent Lower East Side punk goddess to a bona fide international ambassador of New York cool, Debbie Harry will forever be synonymous with that punk spirit that lives somewhere in all of us. After KooKoo , Blondie regrouped and recorded 1982’s The Hunter , which would be the last album of their initial run. Harry quickly became a punk icon in the New York new wave scene of the 1970s; her bleach-blonde hair and exuberant sense of fashion set her apart from her contemporaries, and even Andy Warhol got in on the act, taking several now-classic photographs of the legendary singer.Like the rest of the world since, Stein was taken with Harry’s charisma, her spirit and – of course – her style.

With photographs and words by Chris Stein, Harry's long-term collaborator, artefacts and sketches from the Giger archive, and an introduction by Debbie Harry, this is an essential behind-the-scenes insight into the processes of an incredible creative partnership. HR Giger was the designer of Alien, probably the most famous sci-fi character shown on silver screen. The fantastical videos for two of the tracks on the album, ‘Backfired’ and ‘Now I Know you Know,’ featured Giger himself piercing an Egyptian sarcophagus and a newly brunette Harry reimagined as a xenomorphic Giger creature. As Harry’s then-boyfriend, partner, and long-term collaborator, his insight is perfect for such an unusual chronicle (Harry and others provide recollections in the book, also). There I was introduced to a very beautiful woman, Debbie Harry, the singer of the group Blondie, and her boyfriend, Chris Stein,” Giger said in an interview. Giger had been the set designer on the film, creating a series of erotic and symbolic images that were at once both terrifying and strangely beautiful. R. Giger, who had worked in the design department for Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien was chosen to work on the promotional material for Harry’s debut solo record, including the covert art and the music videos for the album tracks, ‘Backfired’ and ‘Now I Know You Know’.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Fine art prints are editioned unless otherwise clearly indicated and come hand signed and/or embossed by the photographer or their Estate. I wore a gorgeous black natural hair wig and a stencilled bodysuit to dance around in with my fair hair brushed in a Giger style stencil. As a vibrant global force and a shaper of pop culture, Debbie’s chart-topping success, fearless spirit and rare longevity led to an induction into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame for Blondie in 2006. R. Giger, best known for his biomechanical creature and set design for seminal 1979 sci-fi-horror film Alien, encountered Debbie Harry, the punk icon and lead singer of globally successful new wave band Blondie, the results were sublime. She has become and still remains a true national treasure, one whose influence continues to impact the worlds of music, fashion and art. Via a Chyrsalis press release Giger declared that the cover meant whatever the viewer wanted it to mean. He helped design the haunting imagery for Swiss psyche rockers Walpurgis’ 1969 album, The Shiver , Emerson Lake, and Palmer’s gold-selling 1973 LP, Brain Salad Surgery , and the sleeve for French prog-rockers Magma’s 1978 record Attahk .
