Sheikh Bab El Ehr is an Arab insurgent who fights Emir Ben Kalish Ezab, ruler of the fictional Arabian state of Khemed; though overall he comes across as a villain rather than a noble fighter. Alonso Pérez and Ramón Bada are the chief antagonists in The Broken Ear. They discover that a diamond is being concealed in a fetish and do anything to possess it. Pérez, an engineer, is the leader of the two. Bada, the follower, is a knife thrower, and uses more Spanish in his speech than Pérez. While fighting with Tintin in hand-to-hand combat for the diamond, Ramón and Alonso fall into the sea, each clutching whom they believe is Tintin, and drown. [9] Raymond Leblanc, editor of the Tintin magazine viewed the emergence of television as a promising medium for his paper characters. He then decides to create the Belvision Studios. On 15 October 1954, Raymond Leblanc created the Belvision Studios. It was specified that the purpose of the company was to produce filmed programs. Georges Prosper Remi (22 May 1907 – 3 March 1983), better known by the pen name Hergé, was a Belgian comics writer and artist. In previous works, Hergé had drawn upon a variety of pictorial sources, such as newspaper clippings, from which to draw the scenes and characters; for The Secret of the Unicorn he drew upon an unprecedented variety of these sources. [17] In drawing many of the old vessels, Hergé initially consulted the then recently published L'Art et la Mer (" Art and the Sea") by Alexandre Berqueman. [18] Seeking further accurate depictions of old naval vessels, Hergé consulted his friend Gérard Liger-Belair, who owned a Brussels shop specialising in model ships. Liger-Belair produced plans of a 17th-century French fifty-gun warship for Hergé to copy; Le Brillant, which had been constructed in Le Havre in 1690 by the shipwright Salicon and then decorated by Jean Bérain the Elder. Tintin offers to cure the Picaros of their alcoholism if Alcazar agrees to refrain from killing Tapioca and his men. Alcazar reluctantly agrees. Moments after the Picaros are cured, a musical troupe called the Jolly Follies arrives, intending to perform at the upcoming carnival in San Theodoros. Alcazar, with a little advice from Tintin, launches an assault on Tapioca's palace during the carnival by dressing the Picaros in the troupe's costumes and sneaking them into the capital. King Muskar XII and his country do not appear to have been based on definitive models; both were inspired by various Eastern European and Balkan states. [37] Many of these states were monarchies ruled by Carol II of Romania, Zog I of Albania, Alexander I of Yugoslavia, and Boris III of Bulgaria. The king's costumes may have been inspired by the portrait of Spanish King Alfonso XIII [38] and the Romanian prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza. The king bears a striking resemblance to Zog of Albania, a man who also carried a gun and confronted violent conspiracies. He is sometimes shown wearing a military uniform, holding the rank of Colonel of the Royal Guards. The king's military service is similar to members of other real European royal families, who have members that have served in their nation's militaries. This series has aired in repeats on non-network syndication in the United States from 1963 to 1971. Several video releases were made, in both English and French. To date, no DVD set has been released, though The Calculus Case was released on DVD as a full-length film.
