About this deal

To further ram home the point that the Casio F-84W is the more delicate model, the resin strap is cut differently. The third to last hole was the max for my six-inch wrist. With the ’91’ however, the fifth to last hole was where I called it. You get the classic Casio digital display with day and date readouts as well as the ability to switch between 12 and 24 hour modes. You can really tell when you look at the text on the dial. The fonts are straight out of the mid-80s, and there’s a “Lithium” inscription that doesn’t appear on the F-91W. My wrists are about 6.3” around, and the F-84W is just the right size for me. If anything, it’s actually a little on the small side. In the F-91 W manufactured in Japan like other models of the F series, such as the F-84w, does not work to apply the right button and see the word CAsio.

I like the F-91W, but I actually prefer the lesser-known F-84W, a watch that I don’t think gets enough attention. As you’d expect, the F-84W is incredibly small and thin even for a digital watch. This thing seems to be tailor-made for small-wristed wearers. Lastly, is the F-84W better than the F-91W? No. As said above, they're functionally identical. Both watches have the same quality to them. The reason to buy the F-84W is for the mid-80s styling and the fact it's slightly smaller, thinner and lighter.

USA v. al Qahtani" (PDF). US Department of Defense. November 7, 2005 . Retrieved February 27, 2007. As much as I’ve touched on comfort earlier on, I should stress that the strap on the Casio F-91W is the more comfortable option for a long day out. While the strap of the ’84’ is more pliable, it doesn’t exactly wrap around the wrist as nicely as the ’91’s. Unfortunately, not everyone can actually afford to roll around in a JDM car. Fortunately, a JDM watch is well within the reach for most of us. The right button, labeled "Alarm On-Off/24hr", is the function button: when used, it starts and stops the stopwatch, changes the settings currently being adjusted, or switches between the 12- and 24-hour modes, depending on what mode the watch is currently in. Pressing all three buttons at the same time will fill all the cells on the LCD until any button is pressed again. [10]

The design has quite a few noticeable changes from the F-91W. It has less text, and while some of the labeling is the same, it appears in different places on the F-84W. The time or date is adjusted by pressing the lower left button three times to bring the watch to time adjustment mode. The top left button is used to cycle through seconds, hours, minutes, month, date, day and normal mode. The right button is used to adjust the flashing value displayed. Unlike any other value, the seconds can only be zeroed. Should this happen before 30 seconds, the watch will zero in at the beginning of the current minute. After 30 seconds it will start the next minute as displayed. When the adjustments are finished, the bottom left button can be pressed once to return the watch to normal mode.

For starters, I really like how functional this watch is. Every feature is practical, and there’s nothing unnecessary thrown in the mix. Yeah, it’s true. The ’84’ made its debut in 1986 while the ’91’ was introduced in well… 1991. Although with that said, there are conflicting reports with PacParts stating that the Casio F-91W was born in 1989 instead. Whatever that year may be, the ’84’ is the OG between these two. Another bonus of having a JDM watch strapped to your wrist is that you’re more likely to attract the right kind of attention. Those who know, know. Those who don’t, won’t. It’s as simple as that. Pop a Rolex on your wrist and you’re likely to attract ALL kinds of attention. Yes, yes and yes! I totally agree with your points as well – especially on the F91W’s keeper having a mind of its own. And I’m glad someone appreciates crass chest hair jokes/references! XD

Interestingly, the light, mode, and alarm buttons on the F-84W are labeled vertically. This saves space and makes the dial look less crowded than the F-91W (which uses horizontal inscriptions). The upper left button, labeled "Light", turns on the light, cancels the alarm, resets the stopwatch or marks the split (lap) time, and is used for selecting settings. The quartz movement, designated Module 593 [ citation needed], is powered by a single CR2016 3-volt lithium button cell.
