About this deal

Anker and Chin remain close climbing partners and friends. They recently returned from an expedition to Antarctica’s Queen Maud Land, where they climbed a new route on Ulvetanna, or the “Wolf’s Tooth.” This feels like (and probably is) an utterly pointless review: if you’re familiar with Chin’s work, you’re going to or have already bought the book; if you’re not, you’re not even going to be reading this. So here’s an idea: let’s all of us lend our copies out to non-climber friends who appreciate beauty and exploration. Maybe we’ll wake something in them; or maybe they’ll be inspired to buy copies for other friends in turn. Chin deserves to be well known. Along the way, Chin shares behind-the-scenes details about how he captured such astounding images in impossible conditions, and tells the stories of the legendary adventurers and remarkable athletes he has photographed, including Alex Honnold, the star of his Academy Award–winning documentary film Free Solo; ski mountaineer Kit DesLauriers; snowboarder Travis Rice; and mountaineers Conrad Anker and Yvon Chouinard. Jimmy Chin is one of the most widely traveled and experienced adventure photographers on Earth, and this collection isan absolute tour de force. I read this book in a single sitting and finished feeling inspired to take on the world.” —Alex Honnold We are happy to assist you with your interest in booking a speaker or celebrity for your event, your organization, and the type of talent you would like to secure, and an agent will be in touch shortly.

can be booked for (private) corporate events, personal appearances, keynote speeches, or other performances.Along the way, Chin shares behind-the-scenes details about how he captured suchastoundingimages in impossible conditions, and tells the stories ofthe legendary adventurers and remarkable athletes he has photographed, including Alex Honnold, the star of his Academy Award–winning documentary film Free Solo;ski mountaineer Kit DesLauriers; snowboarder Travis Rice; and mountaineers Conrad Anker and Yvon Chouinard. Jimmy Chin is a professional mountain athlete, National Geographic photographer, Academy Award-winning film director, and New York Times Best-Selling author. His dual career as a world-class adventure athlete and artist is without precedent - he's equally respected for groundbreaking climbing and skiing achievements in the mountains as he is for his stunning photography and filmmaking. Admittedly, one breathtaking photo of sunset over icy mountaintops does get to look much like another, but the book is really best appreciated slowly, almost one climb at a time. Notes on the expeditions are included, but some readers might have to Google a few terms.

If I weren’t doing what I do, I would be a woodworker or a creative craftsperson of some kind. I love working with my hands and the satisfaction of having a finished product at the end of the day. Loved this; Jimmy Chin’s photography is incredible. I’m a photographer myself, and his mastery of the craft while hanging on mountains, often in freezing weather blows me away. He gives the most incredible glimpses into experiences of mountaineering and climbing that it’s nearly impossible to imagine if you’re not a climber, not to mention breathtaking views of places few of us will ever see.I do hope that Jimmy will have the opportunity to write more, to tell stories about the people, tribes, he met during his trips, to give us insight into their lives and customs. All the pictures (but for his own portrait) are the work of Jimmy Chin. He is a climber, National Geographic photographer and award winning filmmaker. Chin has been featured in publications like National Geographic, Vanity Fair, and Outside magazine among others. Further, he has co-directed the documentary Meru, which won numerous awards including the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival with his wife Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi. Chin has also creatively directed and directed commercial work for brands including Ford Motor Company, Apple, and Bose. Jimmy Chin Age

He also achieved the first successful American ski descent of Mount Everest with Kit DesLauriers and Rob DesLauriers in October 2006. Chin joined the Altitude Everest Expedition as a climber and expedition photographer in an attempt to retrace George Mallory and Sandy Irvine’s fateful last journey up the North Face of Everest in May 2007.The photos cover the landscape, the climbers, the risk, the equipment, the camps, the local people and the many ways to engage the mountains. I’m an optimistic person. I’m someone who likes to call out other people’s strengths. I think there are a lot of meaningful stories that come out of expeditions because they represent the positive sides of humanity. Perseverance. Overcoming challenges. Teamwork. Trust. These are the things I feel and appreciate. How does your heritage influence you? Watch Alex Honnold’s journey toward his rope-free climb of Yosemite National Park's El Capitan in Free Solo, the Oscar-winning film by E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, Sunday March 3 at 9/8c on National Geographic. Chin is 49 years old born on October 12, 1973, in Mankato, Minnesota, in the United States.
