About this deal

Medscape: “Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Clinical Presentation,” “Myxedema Coma or Crisis,” “Childhood Migraine Variants Clinical Presentation.” This is kind of a funny one as I legitimately still don’t know if I’m hearing anything similar to what hearing people hear when I have my hearing aids on. This simulator does a pretty accurate job of depicting what it’s like to hear these noises when I don’t have my hearing aids on. I have severe hearing loss, so most of these things come across in vibrations more than actual noise when I’m aid-less. High fevers and infections. Some infections, like encephalitis and meningitis, can make you hear things, along with the other symptoms. The same is true for high fevers.

Hasbro has decided to bring this game to the masses by releasing “Hearing Things,” boxing up the concept and providing phrases so you can play straight out the box! What do you get? Side effects from medicine. If you begin to hear things once you start a new medicine or your doctor puts you on a higher dose of something you already take, that change could be the reason. It most often affects older adults and gets more likely the more medicines you take. Hearing Things is a game spawned from the viral internet sensation that sees someone reading a phrase while the other wears headphones so they cannot hear what is being said. Hilarity will usually ensue as the headphone-wearing player guesses what is being said by reading their lips! These phrases are much harder to guess and can be used in spicing up your whisper challenge game. The hardest phrases to guess are the ones that are obvious but with a little twist. For example, “I lord You” instead of “I love you.”

Nothing throws you for a loop like when you swear you can hear something that doesn’t seem to have an explanation. If what you heard really doesn’t have a source, it might be an “ auditory hallucination.” It can range from a simple sound to hearing music so clearly, it’s hard to believe there’s no band or radio nearby.

This game is my gold mine. I rely a lot on lip reading, so this is where I excel. A lot of people, hearing and deaf/hard of hearing, do not rely on lipreading for communication, so this game challenges you to really pay attention to the way people speak and reinforces the importance of enunciating. I consider this almost the inverse of telephone. It’s frustrating but so satisfying when you do get it right! Phonak Hearing Loss Simulator The fun of this game really comes from the incorrect guesses made by the player wearing the headphones. While playing, many stupid guesses were made and it just adds to the hilarity. You’d think it’d be easier to describe to people what it’s like being deaf or hard of hearing, but it’s similar one of those “you had to be there” situations. Unless you’ve actually experienced it yourself, there’s really no true way to know what it’s like to not hear everything. This depends on what’s causing you to hear things. Sometimes, once you and your doctor solve that problem, the hallucinations go away, or at least may not happen as much.Intense stress . Serious stress, as you might have after going through something traumatic, can cause hallucinations. It’s especially common to hear the voice of a loved one after their recent death. Most of these are games where I personally struggled or excelled as a result of being deaf. Therefore I’m hoping these games might simulate what it’s like to be deaf or hard of hearing and give people some insight into what we deal with day in and day out. Telephone Mental illness is one of the more common causes of auditory hallucinations, but there are a lot of other reasons, including: Drugs. Certain street drugs, like ecstasy and LSD, can make you see and hear things that aren’t there. It can happen while you’re using them or when you quit after using them for a long time. The important thing in all of this is to learn how to effectively communicate with people of all communication levels. Let people know you’re willing to try something new and that inclusivity is necessary!
